Aqours 3rd Live Tour ~WONDERFUL STORIES~ Day 1 and Day 2 report

Event report by noshukanolife

Day 1 Report

Lovely sunny weather for a live. My seat for Day 1 was somewhere in the stands. It was pretty far back in the B stands, but the white screen was right in front of me so that’s all good. As always, I have my set of expectations for the event that I would be taking part of. Some of these are as follows: Shuka being full of energy and happiness,  Anchan to do the backflip for miracle wave, be able to see some carts pass-by stands A and B similar to the 2nd live, and finally to witness Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium live. Luckily 3rd Live delivered but there were also some other surprising moments especially since it was my first time in an Aqours Live in Japan. ID check is real as there were two police officers talking to the people seated on the stands that I was on. Thankfully, I was fairly late in entering the venue so I was still above the stands area looking for my correct entry spot, bird-eye viewing the police officers so I just took a walk around the venue and later came back to sit down.

Men in white. LL police spotted doing ID checks in the stand area.

In the spirit of camaraderie, I handed a few ultra oranges to my seatmates before the live started. Unfortunately, none of them used it so it was kind of a waste.

The live starts off with Mirai no Bokura wa Shitteru yo! Unlike the fan meeting song, this one is the full version. The crowd was already fairly hype in anticipation for Aqours so it was really loud on our stands. I joined in with the hype crowd but also partially reserving some energy and voice for the succeeding songs like Miracle Wave and Water Blue New World. The next song they performed was Kimi no Hitomi o Meguru Bouken. Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of this song, but I gradually warmed up to it. The dance moves for this song were interesting, highlights were probably Shuka and Arisha holding hands and King putting her arm around Furirin which elicited the reaction of the crowd. This was followed by the MC where Aqours introduced themselves. They did a “Tadaima” as well so the crowd did an “Okaeri” as a reply. Riko-chan beam also hurt Shuka (poor Shuka-chan). Suwawa hugged Anchan and so Anchan was extremely happy, giving out a big “YEAH!” remark. I believe there was a point when Anchan asked a question like who’s seeing Aqours in Mirai no Boku outfit for the first time. Quite a big number raised their penlights and so they did a 360° turn to show their outfits.

Next up, they performed My List. This song was really cutesy and fun. Everyone were doing cutesy faces and dancing around. Shuka pretty much had a lot of screen time in this song so I am very happy (c̶u̶t̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶m̶e̶m̶b̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶u̶n̶c̶h̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶c̶u̶t̶e̶s̶y̶ ̶f̶a̶c̶e̶s̶.̶ ̶F̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶m̶e̶!̶). The song makes you feel warm and fluffy inside. Now after the cutesy song, the next song was MY Mai☆TONIGHT. This signaled the start of the explosive display of skill that the crowd will be witnessing later on. Since the live is now shifting gears, the crowd grew wilder. It was a hype song indeed and the performance of Aqours provided the same intensity. Honestly, I wasn’t disappointed that they didn’t have their costume for My MaiTonight as I was expecting to see it probably in the Fukuoka leg of the tour, but a few friends of mine were hoping that they would wear it on Saitama leg. The song was followed by Kimi No Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai? This song is a staple for most if not all Aqours lives which isn’t really a bad thing cause it just means we get to see Shuka do leap frog jumping over and over again. Some were worried for Shuka doing this kind of stunt, but I’m absolutely confident she will perform this with perfection and no hiccups or accidents every time. We had a break after this, but it was basically a PV leading to the next song Miracle Wave. Aqours members came out in their Miracle Wave outfit and as soon as the song played the crowd roared and penlights turned orange and UOs popping everywhere. All doubt and worries from the fans were washed away when Anchan nailed the backflip. I had to scream for Anchan at this point since it’s the Anchan show. After performing Miracle Wave, there was a brief MC where Anchan was talking about how relieved she felt after nailing the backflip. She even asked Suwawa how she did, and was replied by a warm hug.

Right after the MC, we now proceed to the solo songs. I admit I did not really do my homework and barely listened to any of the solo songs (except Pianoforte Monologue and Beginner’s Sailing). Anchan came out again and performed her solo song One More Sunshine Story. Not much to say anymore for this song as everyone was still harping and talking about the backflip at this point. It takes a while to digest what the crowd has witnessed a few minutes ago. If there’s one thing to note is that Anchan probably felt a lot of the pressure relieved from her after performing the Miracle Wave song so she was very happy and pleased with herself as she performed the solo song. Kinchan’s solo song, Oyasuminasan, came up next and she was moving around in the cart. If I recall right, the cart was moving around the arena area and not in the stands area but it was a change of pace from the usual stage walking and running about. In our stands area there were only a handful of Kinchan fans but I believe there were more Kinchan screams in the other areas. Right after this, the next song we had was white taco, (just kidding) In This Unstable World. Aikyan always sang well and this song was no exception. The crowd was wild for Aikyan which is to be expected because we’re now close to dinner time and white taco does seem to be interesting to eat. Moving on to the solo songs we have Pianoforte Monologue. This to me is actually a really, really good solo song. It feels like the Japanese twist of doing Vanessa Carlton kind of songs. I hoped that Rikyako would play the piano once again to shock the audience but alas we’re not having it this time. I gave my full support for her in this song as per request, but also due to the fact that it is probably one of my favorite solo songs. Right after we have an intermission, a short break to maybe drink up some water and rehydrate.

After the intermission, we now have Aqours coming out in their Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium outfit. They performed Sora mo Kokoro mo Hareru kara, but this time as a whole group. This is one of those songs that gives off sad feels (lovelive production crew, stop playing with our feelings). Right after this song they were at the center stage (circular area) which is where they performed Sky Journey. More feels are being fed to the crowd. I wished that I can see this one up close because Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium outfits are very well made with all those small glittery sequences. Finally, after Sky Journey performance, we have the moment everyone was waiting for (or the moment I was waiting for). I guess after the feels, we now go back to a crescendo of hype so we start it off with the song Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium. The whole Metlife Dome echoed with the calls and chants. Since this is a Shuka/You focused song I had to give it my all even if I am way back in the far stands. Intermission PV followed so it was a good time to wipe off sweat and go drink water or energy drink as some of the other fans did around my area.

The next song right after the PV was Awaken The Power. You can feel that the whole Metlife Dome was waiting in anticipation for this. The crowd turned their penlights pink, white and blue to somewhat recreate the Christmas colors present in the song. Saint Aqours Snow made their appearance and the song was lit.  They were in the center of the stage (circular area) so everyone could get a good view of their performance from all angles. Upon finishing the song, Aqours seiyuu made their exit to prepare for the succeeding songs leaving the MC part to Saint Snow. Both Asamin and Satohina did their call and responses and also made the Metlife Dome crowd wave their penlights and such for audience participation points.

Another intermission PV followed and Aqours comes out in their Water Blue New World costume to perform their song Water Blue New World (of course). Shuka really looks great in this outfit and plus points for the interesting hair ornament. They showed the audience how they tore off their skirts as part of the choreography. I only wished they did an intermission MC for this part or something of that sort to showcase their costumes as it was pretty impressive but I don’t think it was possible coming right off from the previous MC. Instead, we get another PV which led to the Aozora Jumping Heart song. Just like Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium, everyone knew this song well enough and started screaming out at the top of their lungs. The energy level of the crowd was definitely there even if it’s already going late. Following Aozora Jumping Heart was an MC of Aqours thanking the fans for their support and all that. But we all know at this point that it’s not yet over, until you see them in their Live T-shirts and school uniform skirts. Shuka pointed at the camera and smiled as she exited the stage.

Encore was granted as per request of the crowd. Aqours came out and performed Landing Action Yeah!! The crowd sang along with the lyrics that were presented on the big white screen. I sang along as well until the part of the song I can no longer read. This song was then followed by Yuuki Wa Doko Ni? Kimi No Mune Ni! The ending theme for season 2 anime episodes. I like this song since it has a catchy tune to it and it has a similar vibe to the previous two songs.

We now head to the true ending MC where they thank everyone for their participation and say a little words of appreciation to each other, the crowd and the security/production staff. Anchan hype was still there, or to be honest, maybe she gained a few thousand more fans thanks to her flawless performance. As for the announcements, you can check on Twitter for it. Finally, after all is said and done, the true last song of the live was Wonderful Stories. Both the fans, staff and the Aqours members were tired but that didn’t prevent any group from giving it their all for this last song.

Day 1 of the Aqours 3rd Live comes to a close, the members did their rounds thanking people from the left, right, center and main stage. But as Shuka puts it, it is only the beginning because Day 2 is right around the corner.

Day 2 Report

Day 2 starts off with lots of rain. Rain that’s pouring strong and it was pretty much never-ending.

God has granted my wishes. My seat for day 2 was an arena seat and it was extremely good. I never thought I would get a better seat than the previous Taiwan fanmeet, but here I am sitting at one of the best seats Metlife Dome has to offer. Seat is not perfect from all angles but it would be rude to complain knowing how the view from stands seat was yesterday. Had similar expectations for Day 2, but this time, I got a better view of the whole concert.

No scary policemen this time around in the arena seats but there were definitely more production staff and security personnel. I was feeling a little nervous about going about the live because I had a bunch of consumables with me, I could end up getting thrown out by all the straight faced looking security. Nonetheless I took my chances, and believed that my sincere support for Aqours will be convincing enough for security to bat an eye.

Just like the previous day, the Day 2 live starts off with Mirai no Bokura wa Shitteru yo! Aqours were all prepped and ready in their costume and proceeded to perform the song just as flawlessly as the first day. My arena area mates this time around had their full support for their favorite Aqours member right off the bat. They were screaming their names right as the song started playing. Kimi no Hitomi o Meguru Bouken was up next. Since I warmed up to this song yesterday, seeing it up close became a treat. After the two songs, we now proceed to the introduction MC where seiyuus introduce themselves. Since I was very near the stage this time around, I decided to use some UB (ultra blue) as Shuka introduces herself and does her call and response in the hopes of Shuka ever noticing that one fan. Arisha did a creepy face for her call and response to which the fans were like “こわいよ!”. We also did a “tricky” Kan-kan-mikan for Anchan’s call and response. After the MC, we proceed again with the same song from yesterday’s setlist. My List now goes on air. The song was mostly cute girls doing cutesy faces. The choreography was simple and I guess the main goal is to just be cute as possible. As with yesterday, focus and screen time went to Shuka which of course I have no complaints on. Seeing her up close making cute faces and smiles was extremely satisfying (I̶ ̶h̶o̶p̶e̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶d̶a̶y̶ ̶I̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶o̶s̶e̶ ̶s̶m̶i̶l̶e̶s̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶u̶p̶).

As the song ended, we now go through the buildup for the Anchan moment.  MY Mai☆TONIGHT was next and the roars of the crowd were stronger this time, and there were fire. Fire in the hearts of the crowd, and real fire burning from the torches or burners along the stage. They already knew what was coming (at least for those fans who were present in Day 1). This crowd favorite song has a good balance of hype and calm to prepare Metlife Dome for the Anchan show. I now kind of felt sad they didn’t have their My MaiTonight costume ready since I was already up close and could see details of their costume easily. Nothing really changed in the first quarter of the setlist as the song Kimi No Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai? followed. I now had the privilege to see Shuka doing the leap frog jumping up close. In the most unfortunate moment or rather the downside of being at the side was that Arisha was rotating to her spot so her frilly skirt twirled and covered the view of Shuka doing the jump. Intermission PV followed in preparation for the big moment.

As the PV ended, we now get the most anticipated song for this live which is Miracle Wave. Similar to the first day, as soon as the song started playing, everyone changed their penlights into Mikan color or UOs in support of Anchan. Unfortunately the amount of overwhelming support was not enough, or maybe it was too much to handle, and so she was unable to successfully do the backflip and landed on her knees or inner thighs I think. After the song, the lights went out for a quick water break and freshening up for the Aqours members to prepare for the MC and intermission. From my seat, you could clearly see each members’ silhouette coming close to Anchan as the lights went out and they each gave her a hug because Anchan was doing a motion expressing “Sorry, I messed up guys”.  Hugging Anchan in the dark probably just means “it’s okay, all is well”. We’re all human beings, failure is unavoidable; it happens. The seiyuus are not just your 3D (2.5D) version of the character as they have real emotions too. Similar to personal expectations, I assume they also expect themselves to perform flawlessly so that they are able to give back to the numerous fans who support them. As they ready up back in line for the MC, Anchan was already upfront in saying her piece that can be summarized to sorry I let the fans and the members down. The Metlife Dome fans and the other members of Aqours just reassured Anchan that it was still a good performance and gave Anchan a round of applause.

After the MC and intermission, we get to see Beginner’s Sailing. Immediately everyone changed their penlights to the corresponding blue color. I honestly didn’t expect them to do the other half of the solo songs. I was thinking we would get to see the other half in the next leg but they did all the solo songs this Saitama leg (just split between the two days). Shuka was wearing a white dress with red and blue laces or ribbons floating around on her shoulders and a hat. The song started with her on the left side of the stage, then she proceeded to dance and run towards the right side of the stage for the next part of the song. After visiting the right side of the stage, she started walking towards the center and singing in the middle. Later she proceeded to go run around the circumference of the circular center stage. She gave our area a big smile while jumping. Being a few meters (maybe 3-5 meters) away from a smiling and jumping Shuka that’s facing your area is probably the best 3 seconds of the Day 2 live. I was really happy after that performance and still trying to make sense of what I just witnessed. Unfortunately, there’s not much time to reorient myself with the world. Furirin started the RED GEM WINK solo song in the carts moving around the stands. I was not sure whether or not I should look at the big white screen or follow the cart around rotating in a similar fashion. Seems like the people on my area decided to just follow the moving cart with their bodies and eyes so I did the same. I can’t really see much from where I am as the cart was moving around the stands, but do I really need to see anything else after the things I have witnessed a few moments ago. After the RED GEM WINK, Arisha appeared on the elevated stage platform and started performing the solo song WHITE FIRST LOVE. Arisha pulled off some confetti or pieces of silver tape and threw it around as she approached the vertical strip towards the circular center stage. Doing this gave off some fairy princess vibes I guess. The kind of stuff you probably see from Disney or Pixar. We then proceed to New Winding Road, where Ainya was singing. She was hitting the notes pretty well especially on the very long note of the song. So far so good for all the solo songs. Finally it’s Suwawa’s turn for Sakana Ka Nanda Ka? Her costume was some green one-piece dress with blue skirt. She also had a school of fish prop which she waved around. We move on to the intermission PV leading up to the same set of songs as yesterday’s setlist.

Similar to day 1, Aqours came out in their Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium outfit again to perform Sora mo Kokoro mo Hareru kara. The feels are just as strong as yesterday, maybe even more so as day 2 may have not been as flawless as the Aqours members expected. There was this bright stadium light located on the other side of the stadium that was always focused onto the center stage and as such, it was directed at us which kind of blinds everyone in my area. It was kind of unfortunate, but at the same time maybe that’s how it is to see your favorite seiyuu members up close in their shining glory.  Soon enough the next song on the list was Sky Journey. The stadium light was still focused onto our side so I had to look a little bit lower so as not to hurt my eyes. It was kind of sad that I could not have a good view of their dance moves even if I was 3-5 meters away (thanks stadium light). The next song after Sky Journey was Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium. So Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium was even more hype this time around as I was surrounded by other Shuka/You fans. Shuka sang her solo parts pretty well as compared to the second live. She usually goes off note on the solo part of the song because she’s excited or too happy. Admittedly, singing is probably not one of Shuka’s best skills, but she has grown to improve her singing which is evidently noticed during this third live through her solo song Beginner’s Sailing and other solo parts. After Koi Ni Naritai Aquarium, an intermission PV played leading to Awaken The Power.

The song started off with a blast. The crowd was ready and waiting for this song of the combined members of Saint Snow and Aqours, just as we were hyped for Anchan and Miracle Wave. The members of Saint Aqours Snow matched the level of energy of their fans and definitely gave it their all. As the crowd went wild, so did their performance. Truly a display of awakening the power. The same or a similar MC followed and intermission PV as Aqours take their exit to prepare for Water Blue New World.

After the PV, Aqours comes back on stage for Water Blue New World. The highlight of this song was definitely Shuka being really cute in the outfit, Shuka’s hair ornament and Shuka’s smile (S̶h̶u̶k̶a̶’̶s̶ ̶s̶m̶i̶l̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶d̶i̶d̶ ̶I̶ ̶s̶a̶y̶ ̶S̶h̶u̶k̶a̶’̶s̶ ̶s̶m̶i̶l̶e̶?̶) Jokes aside, the highlights for this song are the following: the really nice outfit and hair ornaments of the members, some members tearing off their skirt like yesterday, and falling feathers floating around in the dome. Unfortunately, the feathers did not fall onto our area, so I didn’t get any. Following the successful performance of the song Water Blue New World, we now have an intermission PV going into another crowd favorite song, Aozora Jumping Heart. As always this song is hype, and the energy levels of the crowd at Metlife Dome was still on full power. After the song, we have a short thank you from the Aqours members, and they proceed to exit the stage and prepare for the encore.

Hyper Fabulous Ultimate Jumbo Nesoberi EX!

Encore started with Landing Action Yeah!! They went around the arena in their carts again waving at the crowd. Right after that we get the season 2 ending theme which was Yuuki Wa Doko Ni? Kimi No Mune Ni! I’ve mentioned that I liked this song, actually both ending songs for season 1 and season 2 anime were good. After performing these two songs, we now get the final MC. Anchan was waiting for the bell to chime. She predicted it to ring for the Hop! Step! and Jump! Project announcements. Again, you can check Twitter and the Lovelive page for more information regarding the announcements that were released in the third live at Saitama. Final words of thanks and message from each of the Aqours members were given out and that meant that the end of the concert is now drawing near. The final song for third live day 2 is no other than Wonderful Stories. Since this is the last song for the Saitama leg, Aqours gave it their all for everyone to enjoy. I went all the way to scream for Shuka not just for myself but for all the other fans of Shuka who could not make it to the venue.

After the last song, Aqours members made their rounds thanking the fans from left corner of the stage to the right. Then Shuka and Aikyan ran towards the center stage together (jimo ai) while the other members soon followed. After giving their final thanks, the Saitama leg of the concert slowly closes its curtain. The concert live is officially over and it’s time for everyone to leave, go home, take a bath (as reminded by our caring Shukashuu), and relax.

Minoringo (鈴木みのり) Watashikai Report

This is a special post written by one of our contributors, Archeezy

“Here’s the copy of the code for that upcoming Mikku event lottery,” I said, as I felt for and pulled out the CD case stowed inside my red shoulder bag. I carefully extracted a small, square piece of paper on which the codes were printed and handed it to Zeroblade, my hand shaking as I did so. Winter in Japan is about to end, and yet its biting cold remained unrelenting still. There were three of us at the Radio Kaikan back then—Koko was with him at the time.

“I can’t believe you wore that [Walkure 3rd Live] parka for like, the whole time,” Zeroblade commented as he took the codes. I smiled sheepishly. It’s true though. I wore it during my trips to Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.

“mattvent never misses his chance,” I said with a laugh. “Always count on him for an errand so long as someone’s in Japan.”

It was an awkwardly brief meetup—I took the trains to Akihabara station from my BNB in Asakusa for this sole purpose. It was awkwardly brief, but it cannot be helped. I might as well do some shopping in the nearby Don Quijote while I’m at it, I thought. I was ready to bid the two of them adieu and go about my business, when Zeroblade stopped me with a question.

“Oh right, are you leaving [for the Philippines] tonight?”

“No, not yet. My flight’s tomorrow.”

“Ah. Let’s go to animate.”

I found myself keeping up with Zeroblade and Koko en route to animate. Apparently, unbeknownst to many people (or perhaps only to me), there was to be a Suzuki Minori meet and greet session at the Ikebukuro branch. To participate, one has to buy the Isekai Yuusha no Satsujin Yuugi manga, priced at 600 yen plus tax. Attached to the copies are tickets to the said event at limited quantities.

Isekai Yuusha no Satsujin Yuugi Vol 1 cover

Obviously, I got a ticket. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing this report in the first place. Zeroblade and Koko

got theirs too, much to our joy. I found myself fast cla—no, just clapping to our sheer luck, considering we bought the manga so late in the day. It was also entirely possible that news of the meet and greet event simply did not reach enough people, but it was no time for elaborate theorizing; only celebrating. The event was still a few hours away, anyway.

The fateful Minoringo watashikai ticket

We did so by eating at the nearby Fujisoba, only to be stopped by Asahi TV for an interview about ramen. Apparently, we caught their attention as we, uh, admired the food choices display booth in front of the restaurant. Yes, that sounds about right.

Zeroblade tanked most of the interview, with Koko and I joining in every once in a while. This day got only more and more interesting by the moment. We then made a brief stop at Dera to check out some weab stuff, and then at Zeroblade and Koko’s BNB for a brief prep—gifts, letters and all that jazz. I wrote a quick letter for Minoringo, telling her that I attended the recent Walkure 3rd live, and that I wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Typical fan letter format.

We then made our way to Ikebukuro for the meet and greet event. There was already a line for the event. It wasn’t very long, but it was at least long enough for us to circle back several floors down after reaching the top floor by elevator and realize that there was, well, already a line. I surmised that truly, not enough people got the memo.

Moments before Minoringo’s appearance

We did not have to wait very long. There was a brief spiel from the host, and out came Minoringo and took the center stage amidst cheers and clapping. I had to admit—I was awestruck. Not only was this my first meet and greet event in Japan, but Minoringo was just so damn adorable. She wore a black, sweater-type blouse and a brown skirt while donning twintails.

She was a very charming character. She briefly promoted the manga—apparently, the said manga is going to have an anime adaptation, and she will be voicing a character; Kanon. She would later give out Kanon bromides during the actual meet and greet session.

What got me was when she noticed the awkward pose of an anime character statue to the side of the stage.

“His pose kind of looks perverted,” she commented with her trademark sweet voice, eliciting a roar of laughter from the audience.

As a bonus, five signed shikishi were to handed out before the session to five lucky winners. The contest was jankenpon; Minoringo while onstage, played jankenpon against all of us. Anyone who loses or ties with Minoringo sits down and loses their chance to win the prize. Zeroblade was a bit close to winning, but in the end, neither him, nor Koko, nor me won a shikishi. At the very least, at least the, shikishi were handed out by the staff, not Minoringo herself.

Then came the meet and greet session. All the while, Koko and I talked to kind of review the things we’ll say to Minoringo, which kind of helped calm my nerves. Zeroblade was a bit behind us as he got in a bit late earlier. All the while I would look at Minoringo at the meet and greet table, entertaining awestruck Japanese fans as the program went on. Actually, come to think of it, I think the three of us were the only foreigners in that place that time. And we were all wearing Walkure 3rd live clothing. Oh well.

I was right behind Koko and it was now his turn. I tried to chat with the marshal. “Is it okay if I chat with her a little longer?”

The marshal looked like he was caught off-guard. “I, er, well, you see…”

Then I saw Koko step out. “Oops, sorry, it’s my turn now,” I murmured as I quickly made my way to the guest of the night.

Standing right in front of Minoringo, separated only by a table, was an immaculate experience. This is, hands down, as close as I could ever get to Minoringo, and for a split second thanked all the known gods for this wonderful experience.

“Thank you very much for coming!” Minoringo said with a bright smile as she handed me a bromide. I stood open-mouthed for a brief moment and bowed. She had pretty big eyes for a Japanese, and that made her all the more adorable.

“Thank you very much!” I stammered. “I’m a fan from the Philippines.”

“Oh, like him?” she asked, pointing to Koko as he walked out of the room.

“Yes, I am with him. Speaking of which, you know, I’ve been to Walkure 3rd live!”

Minoringo’s reactions were animated. “Oh! Really? Thank you!”

“I’m even wearing the parka right now!” I continued. “I cried when you sang God Bless You, and I got so pumped up during RunePika, that my own rune might have sparkled as well right there and then!”

Minoringo burst into laughter.

“You have a lot of fans in the Philippines, you know!”

Minoringo clapped her hands to her cheeks. “Really? That’s great!”

“Yes! I wish you all the best in your current projects. I also look forward to your future lives—be it Walkure or a different one.”

“I shall do my best. Thank you very much!”

“Thank you so much!” I said and flashed out a Walkure hand gesture (kill me now). For a moment, I couldn’t hear anything—all sounds were blocked out, and only that brief moment of actual conversation with Minoringo remained. I could feel my heart fluttering, and I couldn’t help but smile like an idiot.

I found Koko just outside the room and joined him. We were mostly fanboying about Minoringo. In that one moment she skyrocketed up my personal seiyuu ranking (which I will not disclose to the public).

Zeroblade found us shortly after.  “Can we, like, buy another copy and fall in line again?”

We left Ikebukuro in high spirits. I parted ways with them at Ueno Station and made my way to Asakusa via the Ginza line. All the time, the chill of the last days of Winter blew across Tokyo and made nightly commuters clutch their scarves and coats a little tighter. But I hardly felt a thing. After all, as Zeroblade aptly put it, the weather was cold, but my heart was so warm.

TW Overseas Episode: Aqours LIVE & FAN MEETING Trip to Asia (Taipei)

“I’ll give you my VIP ticket.   You deserve it more than I do.”

It took me a few seconds to get back to my senses.  VIP.  Seventh row, seat number four, right smack in the middle of the stage.  I kept browsing back and forth the pictures shown to me of Taiwan International Convention Center (TICC), trying to form in my mind what kind of image would I be seeing.

That wasn’t the first time I’d be seeing Aqours, some group of sing-and-dance girls that have been driving me penniless in a rollercoaster ride of emotions, encounters, and experiences for more than a year now.  The highlight of my 2017 was me taking the YOLO plunge to see them in Saitama in the last leg of their second major Live tour.  It was an experience that to this day I haven’t gotten over, yet there I was, imagination now running wild over now-reality that I would be seeing them up close in their Live & Fan Meeting in Taipei – a drastic difference from where I stood in MetLife Dome last year where they were only pixels big.

For weeks since accepting that offer from a friend, I could only restlessly count down the days ‘till the trip.  Much had already been said and claimed over how dedicated I am over my handlesake (to varying degrees of truth), and containing my patience of getting *this* up close and personal was getting harder and harder to contain with each passing day.

But making the trip so worth looking forward to, more than just the prospect of getting so close to the 9 girls, was the fact that I would be seeing them as part of what would become the biggest contingent of PH eventers to fly out for a Love Live! event yet.  This squad goal of a trip seemed as if it was fated to be; with a surplus of tickets in the pool, and the timely lifting of visa requirements to enter Taiwan, it took only a bit of shark talking on how this trip would be the golden opportunity of a lifetime to have our overseas episode to turn a group of three into 11 (and made more friends along the way).

The spirit of the fan meet had been felt long before we ever set foot in Taiwan.  Nesoberis in tow as if children cradled on matching luggage covers, from airport to airport, train to train across the amazing modernity of a first-world country, we were pretty much weebs on a field trip to remember.  We stuck together for the most part during the entire trip, save for a separate excursion wherein some of us headed to Songshan International Airport to anticipate the last arriving flight from Japan – the arrival of Aqours.

Stepping into the arrival area of Songshan, I was reminded of the year past.  A crowd of Livers before me, none of who spoke the same language as I did, with only our merchandise to identify each other as kindred.  I stood out in particular thanks to Aikyan, my beloved nesoberi who a friend modified into her namesake in the Kowareyasuki outfit, a remembrance from Second Live.  She bore so much attention that I was getting stares, and two fellows even personally came up to me out of curiosity over my unique possession.  I felt it again – an ironic feeling of belongingness despite the language barriers which remained so profound, that I consider getting noticed the highlight of our Songshan excursion more than Aqours’ arrival, of which I failed to recognize any one of them thanks to the crazy crowd, girls’ splendid measures at remaining incognito, and a first-hand experience of extreme policing that almost got a friend’s phone smashed.

Legs still aching from all the walking the previous day, we woke up Saturday, day of the Live, early at 6AM in preparation for buppan.  The Liver crowd again did not disappoint in numbers and in displaying their immense dedication that bordered obsession.  Not long after we discreetly dissed our BNB neighbors who headed out to line up as early as 6AM, we end up eating our own words on finding out that the line had already looped around 8AM.  It was a long, long wait until the goods counter, a wait that was somehow eased by the colorful sight of all the Livers in line.  Three and a half hours later, we now stood before the entrance to TICC, the grand stage of our journey.

There was a lot to see within the Liver stage that TICC had become.  After grabbing our goods on our turns at the buppan, the entire group played the bromide gacha and exchange game, scrambling throughout the Hall, unwanted bromides onhand and on display to bypass the language barrier in search for willing traders.  One thing of particular note that we checked out afterwards was our very own PH flasta, the materialization of the support from our fellow Livers back home, as well as the jolly cooperation that a friendly group of international Livers imparted in having the flasta paid for and set up.  The festivities continued outside, where fans gave out call books, guides to the Yousoroad and Kananrail, and even a showcase of godly expensive Dollfies in the image of Aqours members.

Clearly we had spent too much time enjoying the crowd and festivities that we had to rush lunch and last-minute BNB excursions in order to make it in time for the 2:00PM start of the afternoon session, which my VIP seat was part of.  We went on our separate ways to our own seats in the stage that we had looked forward to and invested in so much for the past months.  This was it.

I paid no heed to the looks I got as I nervously, excitedly made my way to the “best seat in the house” in production design terms – seventh row, seat #4, in the middle of the frontmost group.  My nervous silence in trying to blend with the fortunate front-row crowd was broken as soon as I arrived at my seat.  The person to my left took the initiative to greet me and compliment my outfit – same as what Aikyan the neso wore – and even called me an “amazing fan.”  Needless to say, I was flattered and could only warn her of how an emotional mess I could become once the girls show up.

With only a few minutes left before showtime, too short to catch my breath and take in the close, personal experience that was to unfold before me, the stage lights made a dramatic transition, and the familiar upward intro tune of Landing Action Yeah! strongly resounded.  The crowd exploded in a massive cheer as one by one, Aqours made their grand appearance…

Landing Action

Where should I play with you today?

Everyone, let’s Call and Dance!

It was a confusing, adrenaline-infused mix of excitement, joy, and tears in the minute that followed. The overwhelming realization of “I am here – again – for real,” in the closest distance I had ever been to the group I have been so closely devoted to, once again heeding their Call to have fun and Dance, is a moment that can never be replicated by any other medium.  My hands that have been long familiar with the grip of a Kingblade were trembling as I cheered as loud as I could, sense of sight overloaded by the goddesses that now graced the stage.

I along with everyone else there clearly were having the time of our lives, but after a short version opening of Landing Action Yeah!, the girls did not forget about those who needed this time the most – the people affected by the recent disaster that struck Taiwan.  Everything that would happen from then on, they dedicated to those who needed it the most – a timely reality check.  I could only applaud in respect.

The girls then made their signature introductions, perhaps the most memorable yet so far for me as a proud, loyal little demon who greeted her goddess the loudest “Ohayoshiko!!” he could.  The Fan Meeting segment of the event followed afterwards, basically an extra special niconama segment filled with extra special fanservice.  So much could be said for specifics of what happened, but what stood out for me were, in no particular order:  the amusing background moments by FKT, a…… visually impressive display… during the girls’ birthday greetings for Kanan, the laughtrip reactions to Furirin’s and Anchan’s ikemen impressions, and the girls’ little sister “Wo ai ni!” gestures.

There was so much fun to be had in the FM segment that I lost track of time until it was time for the second half of the event:  the Live.  I readied my blades, too excited to mind the shoddy quality of the event Blade.

Then it began – first up was Mirai no Boku wa Shitteru yo, a song that I admittedly have not paid much attention to but was now making its mark in my memory thanks to this Live.  But what really got me by surprise was the next song.  The moment the girls bore a very familiar line formation with Aikyan at the center, I knew it was time for Daydream Warrior.  The upbeat, EDM-esque of a favorite by even my non-Liver friends once again was being performed Live before me for the second time already, yet the dancey tune still drove me to tears as I furiously swung my Blade Max’s set to the brightest.

The song that followed was also a very memorable piece, one that all of us had anticipated thanks to a special segment:  HAPPY PARTY TRAIN.  Making an exception this time to my blades’ color selection, I was flooded with memories of Second Live up until the eagerly, nervously awaited Kananrail segment.  Echoing the words of a friend, despite the yakkai crowd Taiwan is somewhat known for, the Taipei crowd’s hearts connected in pulling off a clean Kananrail.  It was such an overwhelming moment to be in, so much so that it got me to momentarily pull my eyes away from Suwawa and look around in pride and amazement for being part of this crowd.

The songs that followed, while not as emotionally profound for me than the aforementioned ones, gave me much needed breathing room to take in all the happenings close up.  I attest to the perfection of the seventh row center seat, and the 9999p view it afforded across the stage.  More than the proximity however, was how being seated there made it feel like I was locking eyes with whoever it was at the center as of the moment; with Anchan’s the most for obvious reasons.  It felt as if a goddess was having a stare down contest with an amoeba (me), that all yakkai tendencies within me were sucked out and had me staring, smiling in plain awe.

Before I knew it, the Live was over.  The girls made their farewells, dedicating one for the left, right, and center segments of the crowd in order.  The people behind and above were now scrambling to make their exits, but for us up front, the most nerve wracking opportunity yet was up next – a special farewell.

After around 10 minutes or so of waiting, one by one the VIP rows were gathered to form a single, moving line towards an exit at stage right.  I gathered my stuff, and we were made to briskly walk and follow the line.  At the pace we were going, I knew that the golden moment would barely last 5 seconds.  As we descended a short escalator to a backstage area of sorts, I cradled Aikyan facing out, gripping her right hand with the fan meet blade that glowed white.  Following the line, we made a sharp turn at a corner to a brightly lit meeting room…

…and there they stood in a line, still donning their familiar MiraiBoku costumes that now looked even more dazzling in such a close distance.  Separating them about three meters or so from the moving line was a long table, where they waved and bid hello and goodbye at those passing.

I almost did not have time to identify who was who at the pace we were going.  When my turn to pass them came, I looked for Aikyan as quickly as I could, and spotted her as the second I would be passing by.  I put Aikyan up for Aikyan to see, waving her stuffed hand with the blade, and locked eyes with her, as if desperate for a miracle.

And it did:  in the midst of cheerfully waving farewell at the group behind me, very briefly, she quickly turned towards me, pointed at Aikyan, and said “すごい!!”

I lost all words I rehearsed prior to getting at that moment that I could only blankly say “otsukare!” in reply to Aikyan and everyone else as I passed them all by and exited through another hallway.

In the hallway to the exit, the scene before me looked like a recovery room with people who had as if their souls had left their bodies from what had just happened.  I could totally relate.  But I had to head back to my friends.  I had to let these feelings out.

I found my way back to the main hall to my friends.  There, the look on our faces were that of overwhelm as we quickly shared our own stories of the last few hours.  As I shared mine and had another look at Aikyan the neso, a crazy thought crossed my mind – one that seemed only fitting after what had just happened.  I headed to the gift boxes and looked for the only familiar name written in kanji.  Staring down the box, I gave one last look at her, carefully put Aikyan inside as is, not even with anything to identify myself as the giver, and left with her peeking out of the box as my last mental image of her.

We went our own ways again afterwards with the evening session with my other friends up next.  That was the end of the event experience for me.  Or at least it seemed to be.

Our last day in Taiwan that followed, to the flight back home, even up until now, many among us still fondly look back upon those magical hours.  Playlists of the live setlist on loop as if to self torture, clearly we weren’t over the experience yet.  One could say that was the point of Lives; going into one has never been an easy decision to make what with the amount of time, money, and effort one has to put in.  But after being in one, priorities shift, preferences change, and motivations become set – no amount of merchandise could top the Live experience.  For many, that would be the clear takeaway.

But not for me.

For the relatively diehard Love Live fan that I am, when I recall memories from both Lives that I have been to, I have only but gratitude – gratitude towards my friends who all helped make these happen, and have went out their way to help each other out.  Whenever I stare down my laptop wallpaper, plop down my bed and glance around my room, more than the familiar faces of my following are wonderful stories to be recalled; stories that cannot be retold without making mention of friends that have been part of this crazy weeb journey.

I’d dare even say – more than Aqours, more than that precious VIP ticket, more than the luggage ticket still strapped on m bag – I see friends.

Will another trip like this happen?  No one can really tell. But there is one thing I am sure all of us can agree on: one that we heard in that song that now bears so much memories for all of us.

Our hearts can become one no matter what we do
I want to see your smile, even if your dance is rather sloppy
What’s something that will never change?
Maybe it’s the light that we secured in our memories just now

Aqours Live & Fan Meeting in Taiwan Report

On February 10, 2018, Aqours held their live and fan meeting in Taipei International Convention Center (TICC). This also marks the first time that all 9 of them are in Taiwan.

As early as 2 a.m. in morning, eager fans have started lining up to buy merchandise for the event. Even though it was announced before hand that it would start at 10 a.m., fans endured rain and temperatures reaching as low as 10°C to get coveted merchandise. One merchandise in particular, the red Aqours Club parka, the most coveted item sold out within just 30 mins of the line starting!

While in line, members of Taiwan Road Rail, were behind me preparing the pamphlets to be handed out before the event. There were only 2 of them and they were trying to pack 300pcs. of pamphlets.

There was still 4 hours before the merchandise line started, I went and offered help. Shortly after we started working, those around us also offered their help. The small group of 2 suddenly became a group of 12, preparing the pamphlets for the event later that day. Time flew by fast that by the time we finished we have burned 2 hours of waiting time doing something productive!

Inside TICC, there weren’t much to do other than the buy merch, look at the flower stands by the fans, drop off gifts, and SIF Petafes. SIF Petafes consisted of 3 parts. First one required you to have or install SIF on to your device to receive stickers. Second was to do a 10+1 Premium Scouting on their machine, where getting a UR would earn you a screen cleaner. The last part was to play a song on a 32″ screen with any difficulty, another stickers was given just by completing the song. Another thing that can be done within the lobby was to get the Taiwan exclusive stamp! Shout out as well to the organizers of the DDPH flower stands!

By 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., they started to let people in the auditorium. VIP and S seats were giving blue and red bandannas as giveaways. My seats were in row 11 and row 29 for the afternoon and evening shows respectively. The auditorium was small enough that even the last row for S seats were relatively good seats!

Live and fan meeting

Both sessions started off with the short version of Landing Action Yeah! After the song, they gave a short message with regards to the recent tragedy that hit Taiwan. This was followed by their introductions, call & response, then a short MC talking about various things. Chika is Taiwain’s world poster girl, so Anchan was the MC for this event. Arisha, Anchan, and Aikyan (GuRinPaa) all had their call and response in Taiwans foreign language!

Afternoon:  During Osuwa’s intro C&R; Aikyan started dancing that swimming dance thing. Aiai followed right after and the 2 danced til it ended. Before Osuwa started picking, Arisha faced her with opened arms and Shuka followed shortly after. Osuwa hugged Arisha and Ainya joined in shortly after. During Arisha’s C&R; Aiai got tickled by Kyan, so frrn tickled back. Kyan then tickled King then Frrn and King ganged up tickling Kyan. During King’s C&R; instead of doing a maru, Aiyan did buubuu. Then Aiai told Kyan to do a maru. Frrn, while still in maru, ringed it over Aikyan’s head up to her her waist and Aikyan did the same to Aiai. King got distracted in her C&R that she ringed Aikyan too! They all talked about the food they they wanted to try while in Taiwan. This included things like tapioca, ma you ji, and dou hua.

Evening: Instead of talking about food they wanted to try like, each subunit did their intro in Taiwanese! Guilty Kiss, except for Rikako, were prepared for this and went ahead. CYaRon! followed shortly after asking the translator how to say theirs. The translator worked with the crowd in order to give the proper translation for their introduction. Azalea did the same, but theirs being more complicated that the rest because of the length of their introduction.

Aqours meeting! (Fan mail)

The fan mail that they read out during the segment had the same themes for both sessions. One taking the project for meeting special people, another talking about the seiyuus, another talking about Kanan’s birthday that day, and another talking about the up coming Valentine’s day.

Afternoon: During the afternoon, they talked about how Anchan and Shuka tend to attract each other with the events happening. For Kanan’s birthday, they used the handy cam and each member gave Kanan a short greeting. Suwawa skipped over Ainya so that she would be last, Ainya looked confused when Osuwa skipped over her. Of course this led to the 2 hugging it out at the end.

Evening: The 2nd letter asked about the physical training they do. During this segment they pointed out how waving pen lights would be a good exercise. Aikyan and Rikako tried to balrog holding 3 fan meeting blades in one hand!

Game 1

Afternoon: The afternoon session had members drawing the subjects which they will pull out of a box. The other members then would need to guess what the drawings are. Completing this would mean that they would get a prize! The subjects they had to draw were golf, baseball, steam engine train, Mari, otter, gorilla, frilled neck lizard, rhinoceros beetle, and status of liberty.

Out of all the 9 drawings, they only failed to guess Kinchan’s drawing which was the frilled neck lizard. However, Aikyan managed to guess Kinchan’s drawing, but since it wasn’t unanimous, it was not counted. Rikako also drew Kinchan’s subject after the game ended. (I tried to recreate their drawings)

Kinchan’s frilled neck lizard
Rikako’s frilled neck lizard

Evening: The evening session had a member guess what another member thinks about them. Other members would also share that they like about them. Completing this would mean that they win a box of pineapple cakes! Arisha was so excited seeing the prized and rushed towards it taking a bite of it as well.

First one up was Shuka. Rikako who said how much she loved her laid back attitude. Rikyako then did the “I looooooooooooove you” line similar to the scene in season 2 episode 13. This made Shuka super embarrassed making her all red and had to bury hear face in her arms and later on Ainya. The first years collectively said that Shuka reminds them of a puppy and ended with another “I looooooooooooove you”. Shuka replied how they should just make her Aqours’ pet. In the end Shuka had to guess what Arisha liked about her. Shuka eventually got that Arisha thinks that she has a nice body becuase of how athletic she is.

Next one was Anchan. Majority of the members highlighted how much of a great leader she is. Rikako also said how much of a “papa’s girl” she is! Kinchan said that she liked how Anchan’s lips reminded her of mouths from anime. This was a treat for all the Anchan fans as they zoomed in to Anchan’s lips while trying different words. Anchan had to guess what Ainya thought about her. She got it right and complete the game!

Game 2

Afternoon: Next part had each member act 2 topics and have the audience vote which one is better. To vote audience would have to raise either Mikan or You color with their cyalumes.

The first topic was between an oneesan vs. imouto saying “wo ai ni”. Notable things that happened for oneesan skit was Aikyan did a Dia impression for her turn. Arisha then responded to her skit with her “buu buu desu wa!”. Aiai did her famous “sexy home tutor” for her oneesan skit with Aikyan joining shortly after.

Next topic was “Coming home tired and your significant other goes ‘Oide..'” vs “Failing to create chocolates and your significant other goes ‘i dont want the chocolate, i want to taste you'”. These topics were Anchan’s and Aiai’s skits during the Nagoya fanmeet.

To Aiai’s surprise, the other members left her and said that she should do it to everyone. As she started, Ainya and Anchan couldn’t stop lauging at what was happening. Everyone’s expression while Aiai was telling them “I want to taste you” was hilarious! As Aiai was saying it to them the members were slowly moving away from her and ran away as soon as it ended or gesturing to slap her.

They then did the same for Anchan, that she would do it to everyone instead. Kinchan was one of the first ones, she tried to “kiss” Anchan and Kyan also did the same during her turn. Ainya was bright red after her turn with Anchan, she literally melted in Anchan’s arms. Everyone played their role of going home tired, but Rikako went in all genki with open arms and a huge smile on her face repeating “tadaima”. At the end, Anchan played the tired role with the rest of the members waiting for her to greet her!

Evening: This segment was a combination of pictionary, charades, and telephone. They drew lots in order to know their position in the line, the first person would get a word, where she has 5 seconds to act out to the next person, who then had 5 seconds to draw it. Then, they would go back and forth between acting and drawing until they got to the end and the last person would need to guess what the word was.

The word was marriage, it started with Suwawa, and Aikyan would have to guess. Suwawa acted out walking down the aisle with a bouquet. Arisha got it and drew a bride but did not have enough time to draw the groom. She still continued drawing the groom even though she had no more time. Kinchan got it and acted out showing off a ring to Rikako. Since it was Rikako’s turn to draw, the audience went up in an uproar anticipating what she would draw. Rikako’s drawing looked more like a princess, and when Shuka saw it, the meaning has now changed. Shuka did some twirls, pointed out the crown, which Anchan understood. Anchan’s drawing was rushed but Aiai was still to understand that it was a princess. Aiai waddled around the stage and pointing out a crown-like thing on her head for Ainya. Ainya then an abstract blob with arms and legs with a crown as she did not completely undestand what Aiai acted out. Aikyan was unsure with Ainya’s drawing but guessed princess regadless. They retraced their steps see where the word changed, and found out that it was in Rikako’s drawing that changed the meaning. Her drawing was fine but it was the lack of time that led to the incomplete meaning. It was visible that Arisa was comforting Rikako about what happened.

Arisha -> Rikako -> Anchan -> Ainya

Live portion

Before the fan meeting, I already had a feeling that the set list should be the same one as the Nagoya fan meeting.

Things kicked off with the opening song to Love Live!! Sunshine! season 2, Mirai no Bokura wa Shitteru yo, followed by Daydream Warrior. If you watched the anime and the Happy Party Train Tour, you would know how hype these 2 songs that opened the live portion are! Daydream Warrior in particular has such a dynamic choreography led the the Cool girls (Rikako, Arisha, Aikyan). It was refreshing to watch Daydream Warrior again live and closer than before making me appreciate how good the choreography of the song is.

During the break, they were to show off their outfits. Anchan did the afternoon show and Ainya for the evening show. Anchan did her C&R, she would call out “Kan-Kan!” and as the audience replied “Mikan!” Aqours would turn slowly. Ainya did it with a “sha-sha-sha-shiiiiiiiiiny!” and would turn as they were saying it. They all emphasized how sparkly certain parts of their costumes are. Rikyako spent a good amount of time pointing to her torso showing off the glitters.

Next song they performed was Happy Party Train. As with the past fan meeting, people were anticipating this song in hopes to pull of a KananRail. As the song reached it climax, the KananRail was successfully pulled off! There were random UO’s popped but not enough to make it stand out. It was a sight to see. During the evening show, they did something I personally did not expect. They changed out Happy Party Train for Koi ni Naritai Aquarium! If you haven’t been following the previous fan meetings, this is the first time that they changed a song that was not the fan voted song! As with Happy Party Train and KananRail, people prepared for this song in order to pull off YousoRoad during You’s solo. They pulled this one off as well with barely anyone trying to ruin it. From my point of view, I saw none, but there are people who said there were a couple near the front.

Step! ZERO to ONE was the next song before. It was a refreshing feeling to get see this song live again after Aqours 1st Live. The next set of songs that came up next were a trip back memory lane as they were very reminiscent of the 1st live.

At this point in time, the next song would be voted for by the audience. For the afternoon session, Taiyou o Oikakero! won the vote with Sunshine Pikapika Ondo coming in close secode. This made the afternoon setlist similar to the afternoon session of Nagoya fan meeting as well. For the evening session, Sunshine Pikapika Ondo finally won the votes. This was the first time the Sunshine Pikapika Ondo was performed for a fan meeting! Sunshine Pikapika Ondo was such a playful song to watch as there was not much choreography for that song. It was visible that Aqours were enjoying themselves with the song moving around the stage.

As with any live I’ve been to, watching them live is such a unique experience. It is a way to rejuvenate the burn out from the amounts content that comes out weekly. It was also a pleasant experience watching a live outside of Japan. The energy of Taiwanese LoveLivers are just as infectious as the Japanese LoveLivers.

Toyama Nao 1st Live Event Report

Disclaimer: from personal perspective as remembered

February 3, 2018, was the day which Toyama Nao, a well-known voice-actress in Japan who made her singing debut on February 2017, held her 1st solo live concert in Nippon Budoukan. In the past, she also did some concerts as part of her character works and other groups she had been in. But this time it was her solo live, which mostly consists of her songs in the past year.

As early as 5 a.m. in the morning, people were already lining up to buy merchandise for the concert.

Although it was announced that the merchandise selling would start at 10am, the line was moving so slow that even if one arrived at 8am, it would have taken another 4-5 hours in line to finish. If I were to guess, it would be partly because of the way they divided the line into merchandise goods and the capsule prizes. They should have separated the line for those who only wanted to buy goods vs. those who wanted to try their luck at the capsule prizes.

Merch lineup:

At exactly 5pm, the staff started to let people in. The seats were divided into Arena (ground floor), 1st floor, 2nd floor, and the stands. Upon entering the venue the setup of the stage was divided into the main stage, which extended on both left and right until the 1st floor audience, and a small center stage that is connected by a walkway (hanamichi). The main stage has 4 layers of floors, and at the the top rested a big screen. Looking around the venue, it really was quite intimate and even from the 2nd floor, you can still see the performer with clarity. Almost all seats were filled and you could only see a handful that had no one seated on it.

A few moments later, a video was played on the big screen; it was the dance step for one of her songs named “君と僕のシンフォニー”.

Then the venue lights dimmed, went off, and everyone in the venue stood up as the concert was about to start. A single light shone down from the center stage, and Nao in her 1st album dress and matching ponytail appeared in the middle of the main stage, and started heading towards the center stage while being followed by a spotlight to pick up the mic, and started to sing the intro for “君と僕のシンフォニー”, hyping the crowd from the start (as in the intro for the said song in her MV)

It was then followed by her 1st single’s solo debut song “True Destiny”, both of which pumped up the crowd early on.

After the two songs, she greeted the audience and formally welcomed everyone to her concert and thanked everyone for coming. After some introductory words from Nao, she mentioned that the next part of the concert will be a fun section that she termed it as “a festival of life”, which I also call the colorful part of the concert. She then started with “Bright Heart” that used an elevating stair which she used to go in front of the big screen. They used the screen to do some nice synchronizations of visual and dance choreography that I think they perfectly executed. It was then followed by a very upbeat song, “Day by Day”, which also used the screen, so that when she moves onstage, the image also moves. She also encouraged the audience to sing with her on its chorus part.

After this was another MC and water break for Nao, this time she confirms with the audience if they noticed the screen effects which the audience gladly responded with a yes. She then restarted with the very fun and light song “Goodbye Umbrella”, along with 2 dancers each holding a rainbow-colored umbrella. This was followed by another song from her 1st album “ガラクタフルワールド”. Starting with goodbye umbrella the official penlight of the live that uses the rave system was used. It lets the staff control the lights remotely. The colors automatically changed based on the song along with the beat. So, the audience did not need to do anything and just enjoy as the lights change automatically. In the instrumental part of ガラクタ she introduced her band starting from the guitars, bass, keyboard, drums until the violin.

After the song finished, Nao left the stage and soon after 6 dancers were on stage and the signal for intermission has begun where only visualizations are on the screen and the dancers keeping the crowd on their feet with some EDM-type of background music. This lasted for about 5mins(?) and then, from the large screen it split into two and Nao appeared in between. She was wearing a black shirt with white vest and black shorts with 2 blue cloth hanging from each side. She also changed her hairstyle from ponytail to a straight one. The music then smoothly transitioned to the band playing the intro of her next song, “Starlight”. I can say that everyone in that venue was both mesmerized and amazed at how she was good at dancing. The choreography is both cool and sexy showing that she can do both with perfect balance.

After the song, she briefly introduced the rainbow dancers, that formed the 7 colors of the rainbow of each was assigned a color. Nao’s color that time was blue. They then continued on to the next song, “My Way” this time they inserted an individual section for the dancers in the instrumental section giving each dancer a highlight part, which was then followed by “I will”. Honestly, I didn’t expect that the song will be in the dance section. Nonetheless it was amazing.

After a brief MC and water break, she readied the crowd by mentioning her next song and invited everyone to sing the catchphrase of the song in the final part “あいや あいや あいや いやっさっさ”. She then proceeded to sing her next song, “オトメイロ” which has a really nice balance with technopop along with traditional music. With people hyping up to the chorus jumping and the never-ending calls of the catchphrase during the latter part of the song, Nao exits the stage as the dance section ends.

A video was then played and everyone sat in their seats. Nao narrates the events that led to her 1st live starting from the announcement at last year’s Anisama. It was about her thoughts and feelings when the project was announced, feelings like pressure and anxiety and the like.

After the video, we could hear a piano instrumental and then later joined by the violin which then led to the intro of “星のシルシ”. She was wearing a glittered white one-piece that looks a bit like the white dress from her solo debut single along with her hairstyle.

Then there was an MC shortly after the song, which garnered an applause from the crowd. She mentioned how the penlights turned on looked like stars in the while she was singing. Then this is the part where she was requested to flaunt her dress by turning. She gamely responded to the requests of the audience turning from side to side showing the dress. She also mentioned that her band still has no name and that she’s looking for one like rainbow band, nao band, etc for future lives. (Which she might probably might have spoiled some plans, by adding uncertain words after). After which, she then introduced her next song which is a cover of an old song that she said has left an impression on her. The song’s title is “初恋”. It’s also a part of her 2nd single’s anime edition release. Which was then followed by a short MC that introduces her next song which is a tie-up from an anime that she has also voiced a character, that also has the same title, “月がきれい”.

Then, a different kind of MC was delivered by Nao as she introduced her final song in the ballad section. Here she became emotional due to the experiences and the story behind the song “Rainbow”, where she composed and wrote its lyrics. It was her first time writing and composing lyrics for a song. Right as she sang the song, she was in the center-stage surrounded by a rotating cone of light which looked like threads from above. It was beautiful along with her soothing voice accompanied by the violin. You could tell that everyone in the audience were captivated and mesmerized as she sang the song with full emotions. It was a tear inducing moment that you end up appreciating that moment in time.

When she finished singing, she slightly jested and checked to see if the audience were still awake after being seated for a long time (lol). She then asked the crowd to stand up as the next section is going to be a high energy section again. With the next song being “イマココ” she warned the crowd not to mistake the title call when she asks “ima doko?(Where are we?)” It was then followed by a very high energy song yet again titled, “Chain the World” which was the tie-up song for the anime Chain Chronicle. According to her this was supposed to be the final song. But then it was changed.

For the final song, which is the one they prepared a dance step that the audience can follow. She once again, made sure that everyone got the steps right so, she along with her dancers taught us the steps again. During this time, there was a step that made Nao chuckle and said that we were cute, as she watched the crowd do the steps. The venue lights were lit so that Nao can see the crowd as the final song “君の笑顔に恋してる” was performed. Colored strips of papers with Nao’s message of “thank you for coming and let the rainbow continue” in each one was shot in the air at the start of the song, that signals the end of the performance usually.

After the song Nao did a bow and the lights dimmed. A few moments later, the encore chants begun. With people clapping along and shouting encore as it went on for a long time. After a bit of time, silhouettes of the band members can be seen going back to their instruments which made the chants speed up.

And finally, the middle floor wall opened and a silhouette of a… ribbon on her head and a fluffy pink skirt was visible. The audience, who I think majority knew her roots, quickly went into a nostalgia trip easily recognized her in the outfit. A familiar tune started to play and it was “Love Call” that was a trademark song from one of Kami Nomizu Shiru Sekai’s heroine, Nakagawa Kanon. That familiar voice, that familiar ribbon, along with the skirt I myself became emotional as I was not expecting her to perform character songs that evening. After she finished singing Love Call she bowed, then the crowd were shouting “Kanon-chan”. Now just like the anime she removes the skirt and performed “Happy Crescent”. A very idol-ish character song of Kanon that is complete with claps and calls. The whole budoukan was dyed in yellow as the song’s image color. After the two songs, it can be felt in the venue the miracle that just happened right before us. It was both magical and filled with emotions — As Kanon was the debut role of Nao, She is a very important piece of her career. She explained in the MC after the song that they went to great lengths to request to NBC which holds the rights for the songs to be performed outside the anime to let them perform it in her 1st live.

Trivia: the ending of Kanon arc where she performed in Nara hall was modeled after Budoukan.

So in a way Nao fulfilled the dream of Kanon to be a star. These 2 songs also happen to be the ONLY character song that she performed among the many chara songs that she has played. She also mentioned some of the reasons why this was the only chara song in the live despite having many others and one of these reasons is a form of returning the favor (to those characters, collectively(?)).

After the MC, she asked to remove the ribbon as she is returning to Nao mode. And it’s now time for announcements. First, she announced that the concert will be immortalized in BD form (wow). Secondly, Nao fan club will be opened that will contain special sections like a cooking corner (where Nao’s mother is completely opposed to the idea, because she couldn’t cook(?)).

Lastly 3rd single has been decided. It will contain the opening theme to a new anime that will air next season “Kakuriyo no yadomeshi”, the title of the song is “灯火のまにまに”, and she performed the first full version for us as a bonus. It is a very good and energetic song mixed with traditional Japanese-style feel (It has the same vibes of Senbonzakura). It was truly where she connected the past and the future, by embracing it and moving forward.

After saying the last MC, she performed again “君と僕のシンフォニー” as the last song walking around the stage and greeting the audience. After the final bow, the lights were turned on. The announcement that the concert has now ended marks the end of the live. And the crowd did a traditional good job clap at the end.

All in all, it was a very good live with the different sections arranged. I liked how each section highlights her different talents, specially the dancing part. I really, really loved it. The showmanship is awesome. Cute, cool, sexy, beautiful it was delivered in every section which makes it a live that you can never get tired of. Also, no song is the same as, it was subtle but there is a change in voice in every song. It showed the growth of Nao as a voice actress as well as an artist from the past to present. The 8 years that she spent working on her craft as a voice actress truly honed her in what she is now. Now that she has started another step in her career as a singer, I’m sure that she will further her horizons even more and will continue to grow. In this live, she has shown that just like the characters that have been given to her, that she can live up to the audience’s expectations. She has been working hard and the success of her 1st solo live has spoken for itself the effort that she put in. I will continue to support her as much as possible.

Anime Expo 2017 Event Report

Hello! It’s ambi here. A several months ago, I attended Anime Expo 2017 in Los Angeles for the first time in my life. It was also my first US anime convention. Going to AX was probably one of the best experiences of my life. It has been almost six months since it happened (it’s seven now) but all the memories I still hold dear. Now, here is my long overdue report of my AX experience.

Anime Expo is a yearly event that happens from the last week of June to the first week of July. It’s one, if not the biggest anime event in the Western Hemisphere. It features guests from the industry, entertainment centers, dealers rooms and many others spanning the entirety of LA Live. Since 2016, it also holds Anisong World Matsuri in LA, a two day event of concerts (Kawaii Live and Super Live) with performances from different acts in Japan.

Initially, I was unsure if I was actually going to AX but I booked a flight with the off chance of attending and nothing else. However in the few months before AX, the possibility became more apparent. A friend from Twitter offered me his ticket because he wasn’t going anymore (he ended up going anyway because of Aqours, also thank you Ischy). I took up his offer and I began talking to the people who are going. Little did I realized back then, how great my decision was.

I found out that the reveal was only two days after I bought the ticket. I made a bold statement two days before the reveal that WUG and Walkure would not be coming.

Boy, was I wrong. They announced Aqours and Cinderella Girls soon after. Everyone was surprised with the line-up for AWM Day 1 (or AX Day 0). I never thought it was possible that four 2D idols group will be performing on the same day and on foreign soil, nonetheless. It was unprecedented and naturally as a 2D idol fan, I must go. The guests for AWM Day 1 are just a bonus for me. I got tickets for both days from another generous guy from Twitter and made the necessary preparations.

A few weeks later, I was in the US and I stayed with my relatives for a few days before I travelled to LA via bus. The first guy I met was Bogle, who I met in AFA 2016 before then met Sets (Press F to pay respects). I checked in JW Marriott, one of AX’s partner hotels with two Canadian eventers (Game8910 and Kurotsuki). Day 0 was full of preparation, meet-ups and callbook pick-ups. Kuro happened to have a limited set of Walkure callbooks. Eventually, we lined up for Day 0 in front of the theatre. First of all, the theatre is great. All the seats have a good view of the stage and the audio is the best from what I have seen so far. I was around 11 rows from the front near the center, which was not bad at all. The screen was playing various songs from the performing acts and it was fun seeing the crowd going crazy every time Onegai Cinderella or Aozora Jumping Heart showed up.

Eventually, the lights dimmed and the first performance was Cinderella Girls. I prepared for them the least but I still had a great time. Their setlist seems standard. They did a bunch of fun skits where they did voice acting for their characters. Another fun interaction was between Moyocchi (Kurosawa Tomoyo) and Rurukyan (Yoshimura Haruka) since Yoshimura’s character is a bit of a lolicon. Iidashi (Yuuko Iida) had a really cool beauty vibe around her. It was a shame that they didn’t perform that songs that I wanted but they did a good job. I still broke a bunch of UOs even to the songs I don’t know.

Next was Wake Up, Girls!. First stop, they performed Tachiagare first, which already invokes feels for me. Shoujo Kokyokyoku was next and I love it because of their hip gyrations and it’s a feelsy hype song overall. I shouted “Yoppi!!!!” to the top of my lungs every MC. 7 Girls War was next. Other staples were performed as well such as Gokujou Smile, Beyond the Bottom and their latest single as well, Koi de Ai de Boukun Desu! I broke UOs to almost all songs except Beyond the Bottom, because it should be all white. But, I was more surprised how the audience received WUG during and after the show. I think WUG made a lot of fans that night. As usual, they were amazing. The performance was great as expected of them, they were really refined and their dances were on-point. I cannot wait to see them in their home turf, live.

After WUG, there was a 15-minute break. At that point, we already know who would be next and I prepared my body and soul for it, which at that point was exhausted as hell. I took a bathroom break and rested a bit. The light began to darken and the Walkure logo appeared on the screen. I had goosebumps when I heard the intro of Koi Halation THE War, I knew it was time to blast off to space. JUNNA and Ringo were so cute on stage, I was almost crying already. Ringo is so pure and has a smile as bright as the sun. Then, they performed Ikenai Borderline. I mustered all the UOs I can get within the song and used up all of my remaining energy reserves and just when I thought it was over. They performed Bokura no Senjou next. My hype reached near earth orbit and felt I was going to reach the moon. Next they performed Ichido Dake do Koi Nara and on the last MC. When Minoringo told us to follow her steps, we all knew what song they’ll perform last, “Rune ga Pikatto Hikattara”. She was surprised when the audience knew what to respond after “WHOAH WHOAH”. The entire audience chanted in glee. The girls of Walkure walked out of the stage.

The lights went dark again then the members of Aqours began appearing one-by-one. They’re all really cute and Suwawa was right in front of me. Suwawa was the pure beauty that I expected her to be. They performed Aozora Jumping heart first then Koi ni Naritai Aquarium where a lot of people did the forbidden calls, I broke UO and UB especially on You’s part. During their MC, I broke a Ultra Blue every time Shukashuu talked. Her smile transcended heaven and earth. They performed their first single as well and the anime insert song in the finale, MIRAI Ticket. Finally, they performed Yume Yume. There was still a lot to be desired with their performance but they did good that night.

The live ended with Anchan calling all of the performers on stage except for JUNNA due to something about Japanese labor laws. After that, I met up with people for the idol hell offkai. It was amazing seeing all of these 2D idols live on their first performance in the Western Hemisphere (except for WUG) all on the same day. The atmosphere of being surrounded by other idol fags makes me feel right at home, even though I’m half-a-world away. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget.

Now, it’s time to properly start Anime Expo itself, with an idol hell after-party. It was hosted at Novo near Microsoft Theatre. Before entering the party, there was a bunch of meishi exchanges and people from multiple fandoms met and did weird stuff while anisong is played by some DJs. After the party, me and Sets went back to our hotel room to take a shower then we went to LACC to line-up at 2am for WUG signkai. It was my first time lining up for autographs so early in the morning. It was so cold that I used the Walkure flag sold by Sets, as a blanket. They started to give out entries for the autograph session at around 9:30 am, I made it in time. After, I went back to the hotel and slept for a bit. We could see a massive line from our hotel room. I could see why AX was also dubbed “Line-con” by a lot of goers. I got autographs of 4/7 members (Eino, Takagi, Yamashita, Okuno). I got to talk to the members and then bought some stuff at the Avex booth including some bromides for my bros back home. We chilled in the hotel and roamed around L.A Live until we had to line up for AWM Day 2. I was at row B, around three rows away from the stage.

It started out strong with Konomin and angela’s Atsuko singing Cruel Angel’s Thesis and when atsuko left the stage, Konomin then performed her popular songs. Then Mashiro Ayano performed next, she’s a relatively new artist so I do not know any of her songs. She then performed Sorairo Days with maria of Garnidelia. Ali Project was next, which delivered a good performance but their type of music wasn’t suited to my tastes. She performed Celestial Diva with Chihara Minori. Next, was Minorin who performed Paradise Lost but the surprise of many was when she danced Hare Hare Yukai as well. After her performance, toku and maria appeared on stage. I was expecting, Niina and Miume as well but we can’t have everything I guess. She performed her anisongs. The last performance of the night was angela. Atsuko appeared with a lion suit, as if she was casted in Kemono Friends. They are really really good with interacting and carrying the crowd. Atsuko also loves trolling everyone in different ways. I felt that angela alone made Day 1 worthwhile. Like the day before, atsuko called everyone on stage and they said goodbye. I lined-up for the high touch session right after, where we each get a high-five from the guests. We chilled in Yard House for a few hours after the event. As I was walking back, I saw a bunch of people doing wotagei in front of the hotel and I joined them for a bit. There was also a Namaste Snake lesson ongoing. I went back to the hotel right after and slept for the second day of AX.

On the second day, it was relatively chill and I stayed on the hotel most of the morning until I met with some people to go to Long Beach, where Poppin’ Party was going to perform. I even met-up with a lot of the people from AWM Day 0. The setlist was pretty good with a lot of people breaking UOs, we immediately went back to AX after the live to try to attend Miss Monochrome with Yui Horie. Sadly, I didn’t make it. I roamed around the hotel and went back to my room. Then, a bunch of people arrived and we watched Walkure 2nd Live while eating pizza, sang karaoke via someone’s PS4, drank some alcohol and shared seiyuu materials. We were up until 4 in the morning.

r/LL meetup

We checked-out of our hotel and went back to the convention area. I met up with some people in front of the Love Live display inside AX’s hall, where we did dogeza in front of the Aqours signed standees. Before, we rushed to an autograph session with the staff of Classroom of the Elite. I roamed around for some more and went to the crowd of idol fans surrounding the Lumica booth. I went to the r/LL meet-up after, where I met some members of Team Onibe and other fans. Afterwards, I actually walked from the meet-up to my AirBNB, then I slept for the next day.

Nothing much happened on the final day of AX, I checked-out from the BNB. I took an uber to LA Live and went to the auction area where I happened to meet the guy who bought my AWM tickets, acidtreat and gave him my thanks and Omo, who organized the post-idol hell offkai. I roamed the halls of AX for the last time and even did an FB live for my friends back home. To be honest, there were some things that I wasn’t able to do because of different priorities. For example, I wasn’t able to meet Gigguk and prozdkp, who are my favorite anime Youtubers. Most notably, I didn’t get to see Milky Holmes again. We did something else entirely at the time teehee.

Overall, there is so much to do at AX that you cannot really accomplish anything that you want to do in a measly four days. Bushiroad’s event in Long Beach made things even more difficult to schedule. Sometimes, autograph sessions happen at the same time so you really have to choose, which ones you want and the competition was fierce. The set-up of the whole AX area was clear but it’s really easy to get lost especially for a first time like me but I’m glad that I always had companions most of the time. I cannot stress enough, how important companions are during a convention no matter how big and small. I wouldn’t be able to do anything in AX without a lot of people’s help and they made all the experiences I had so much better. It was so fun meeting all the people you just hear about from Twitter and actually interact with them alongside some P card exchanges.

My highlights of those five days were:

  • AWM Kawaii Live and Super Live
  • The Post-Idol Hell Offkai
  • WUG autograph session and the lining-up
  • Beyond the Ba-
  • Wotagei session at the LUMICA booth
  • Random karaoke session with Ps and WUGners in our hotel room (with the occassional prpr and mixing)
  • PoPiPa
  • Dogeza in front of the Love Live standees
  • Randomly meeting people you hear about on Twitter
  • r/LL meetup

Final loot from AX (mostly idol stuff)

Short Event Report: Aqours in Anisama 2017

3 months in and I still haven’t done my event report last Anisama lol.

So last night, NHK BS aired the TV digest of Anisama Day 1 in which Aqours participated in. As I watched snippets of the event already uploaded here in FB and Youtube, feels from my first overseas event flowed back into me. Today was the perfect time to write that overdue event report. Well, a short one specifically for Aqours in the mean time.

The setlist that Aqours sang in Anisama was:
1. Aozora Jumping Heart
2. Happy Party Train
3. Koi ni Naritai Aquarium
4. Yume Kataru Yori Yume Utaou TV size

Before Aozora started, they showed the usual character video they show on short lives (the one with the Aqours Super Live). I believe they also used that video for Aniupa and AWM. Most of the audience changed their colors accordingly to characters that appeared on screen. I did the same and shouted the character and seiyuu’s name. (Emphasis on Ainya)

They did a pose and turned their backs. I immediately knew the song…

1. Aozora Jumping Heart
Aozora as the opening song was pretty standard. What I noticed immediately was they were wearing their HPT costumes. At that point I knew they’re gonna sing HPT. (Thinking of another song in the middle of a song. Such a bad person w) I considered myself lucky since it was a tour exclusive song and they sang it at Anisama.

– MC –
They did the usual greeting and the 「Aqoursです!」There was no call and response though. Each member did a compact introduction of themselves. The audience simply changed colors and shouted each member’s respective name as a response. Anchan’s part was pretty memorable. A few of her fans not only broke UOs but even did UO balrog (4 UOs on each hand) on her introduction.

2. Happy Party Train
I spent most of the time thinking whether if people will do the color changes for each solo line but people didn’t. I guess if a song is character-centric, people would simply switch to the color of whoever is in the center like how it was in µ ‘s.

This time it’s quite noticeable that Aqours has indeed improved in their dancing skills. Also Suwawa can easily kill you with her winks.

Each member’s solo line was a treat to listen to. Kinda anticipated Kanan’s solo because the HPT costumes glow on that part. The staged dimmed and it was clearly visible even from my seat. I expected people to break Ultra Greens but they broke UOs instead. Aikyan’s and King’s harmony at the end was pretty good.

They did a quick MC afterwards. They said the next song is their last song.

Photo originally from Anisama twitter account.

3. Koi ni Naritai Aquarium
Do I even need to explain this lol? For the record, I simply did the standard calls. The not-so-standard ones, just inside my head.

Broke 1 UO on the sunset part then switched to light blue on Yousolo. Other people broke UOs instead.

4. Yume Kataru Yori Yume Utaou TV size
They brought out pompoms on this song. No actual choreo from what I remember. I wanted to break UOs on this one but it was the TV size! orz
They waved goodbye to the audience afterwards and descended on the platform on the middle. Shouted Ainya’s name all throughout.

Peaches, Mangoes and Udon : How I fell in love with Mocho

“From DD to TO”

As I prepare to trek through Akihabara, donning his datenshi Aikyan bag, my friend Maou asked me “Why are you hiding your bag? Are you ashamed of Mocho?” This hit me like a truck filled with shame and just answered “but it’s pink…” He then dismissed it and answered with a pfft…

Just who is Asakura Momo to me? It has always been a mystery to me how I fell for her. Is it because of her voice? Her cute look? Her personality? Frankly, if you would be asking a past me, I wouldn’t even bat an eye on her and place her as my least favorite Trysail. I believe, everything changed at that fateful December of 2016.

LisAni Live in Taiwan 2016

At this point in time, I was at my peak (in)famy as mango primus, a thirsty Aida Rikako fan. Originally planning to go to Aqours 1st Live, LisAni Taiwan was never in my plan. Playing with ticket wars for a friend Deric, I happened to get a decent seat. YOLOing as it is, I just bought it off and kept it. Who would have thought that this side trip would become one of the most magical days in my life.

I was originally a Nansu (Natsukawa Shiina) fan. Donning my three kingblades of pink, yellow, blue and later UOs, I was greeted with “Haifuri”. Watching them, slowly I look at this cute bubbly pink girl, twirling like a kid, being all lovely and all. As soon as they started with MC, I turned my attention to all three, being amazed at Tenchan’s (Amamiya Sora) mandarin proficiency, entertained by Nansu being bullied… and this cute Mocho, being amazingly funny with how she discovers Taiwan’s food, and enjoying mango iced tofu. I see myself unconsciously raising my pink more than I realized.

Throughout, I enjoyed LisAni Day 1, with my mind floating away how wonderful Mocho is. I have no basis of comparison what Love at first sight is, but this is probably it. However, my mind still rejects the idea.

TryAngle Harmony Special in Taiwan 2016

Of all the events I’ve been into, Torahamo is the most significant and the one that would change my life forever. To be honest, I don’t know what I should expect in this one, as my friend Zeroblade just happened to have spare tickets that can be shared to me and Deric (actually just Deric, and he made extra dealings to get one for me too).

On this talk, even with less sleep than before, my mind was alert, trying to follow their talk and it was worth it. The girls are very relaxed and at home, Tenchan being a bully that she is, and Nansu being adorably the straight man in the trio. What caught me off guard is how Mocho is being so honest with what’s in her mind. It struck me every single time when she talks, smiling when she talks of her favorite TW food, of her panics when she gets the wrong answer, of what she thinks Nansu’s fruit should be, and everything.

The voice acting session was fantastic. I believe it is a continuous story from their Age of Discovery tour. The three are sailing through the seas in search for their own treasures. On the part that Mocho eats xiaolongbao, is probably the final key that crumbled my whole perception of the past and decided that she is the one.

To a normal person, this is probably a simple talk with some performance but to me, this is the end of all my kimoi and pathetic notion of being THE BEST FAN (whom PH people fondly calls Primus), accepting the insults thrown at me. This is also the start of me being truly happy.

Million Live, Trysail and Beyond

Thinking it was just an infatuation, I decided to stop briefly my ideas and dug myself to work. However, no matter what I do, on everything I do, be it my work or my frustrations, Mocho always come to my life in the most unexpected of ways, cheering me at my lowest. I’ve gone to multiple lives thinking of her – Million Live Taiwan, Trysail Harbor x Arena, HOTCHPOTCH FESTIV@L – and everything is a fresh experience, filled with anxiety that will only be washed away with seeing her smile and hearing her talk or sing.

During what I can consider as one of my lowest points in life, there is just Mocho. Dejected by friends and family, bombarded with work, penniless and alone in Japan, I am in deep sadness. All I wanted was to disappear, walking aimlessly at Chiyoda. However, at the very point in time that I got drunk and lost in Tokyo, as if by amazing coincidence that I look at the Chu-hi and I see it as peach flavor. Tears run down my cheeks as I fell to my knees, remembering there is this one girl that made me smile, that gave me eventer friends who I can share my experiences with, that gave me so many fresh memories that I can cherish, that made me truly happy. That one girl is Asakura Momo. It gave me strength that I was able to take up courage to ask for help to friends whom I will forever be grateful to and to face all my problems.

It was the very moment that I am truly in love. She was there when no one was. She always finds her way back into my life, no matter how hard I try to redirect. She is and will always be the most precious girl in my life, saving me from the deep depression with her love for food and her bright smile. No matter what people might think of me – a delusional fan who gachikois to someone who never knew he existed – I can say with a straight face, I am at my happiest with Asakura Momo. Now, with head help up high, I can walk proudly with my life, facing my problems, improving myself and following my dreams, while keeping closest to my heart this cute peach that saved me.

So now, if you ask me who is Mocho to me? She is my sunshine and the love of my life.

I love you Asakura Momo.

Looking back: Cosplay Mania Day 1 – Riho Iida and the PH Community

This post was originally posted in last November 4, 2016

First of all let me go back a bit, to April of this year. FLOW just finished their breathtaking full set performance. This made me look forward to the rest of the conventions for the latter half of the year. I was already anticipating which guests would be invited for Cosplay Mania Jam since they were able to show potential when Pile came over last year.
Cosplay Mania 2016. Cosplay Mania x I love Anisong

Fast forward to July,  thus the announcement, Cosplay Mania x I love Anison. This made people so hyped cause it meant a large pool of possible artists for the event. Yet the announcement must be taken with a grain of salt since this partnership is a sign of testing the waters, whether the Philippines is a viable market for Japanese concerts or not. A responsibility rested on the shoulders and wallets of the fans if they wanted more artists to come in the future.

Rippi’s flasta. The color theme was based on the jacket of her 2nd album.

A few months before the event, the community, spearheaded by several people and Riho Iida Philippines, began to make preparations. Button pins and Call books were produced and freely distributed to people attending the concert. Flowerstands were also presented to Riho Iida and Starmarie, which was completely crowdfunded through donations. T-shirts were also printed and worn exclusively by Riho Iida PH members. A huge tarpaulin was also printed, which can be seen near the end of the blog.

Callbooks were freely distributed online. Hard copies were given away at the Onegai Onii-chan Booth.

Sad to say, even with thorough planning, there were some disappointments and minor hitches that happened, especially with the Meet and Greet process. I’m no longer detailing on what transpired regarding the process since I want to make this blog as positive as I could. All I can say is, the organizers shouldn’t let the crowd run like that. Safety should always be first.

Nevertheless, the meet and greet did bear positive effects, especially to those who ran as fast as they could. All efforts previously mentioned above was duly noticed by Rippi, all thanks to the Kaigai eventers that were overheard by Rippi’s staff talking about the huge tarpaulin.

It is my first time in Manila.
I was surprised that a lot of fans here were waiting for me.

Thank you,  I had a great time. ~ ☆☆

The concert itself is an experience to remember. The crowd has definitely upped their game this year. Almost everyone in the VIP section has a Kingblade and knows the chants to Rippi’s songs. It felt like everybody has thoroughly studied the call guide and knew exactly what they should do.

Near the end of the concert, Rippi said a short message that was translated by an interpreter. She apologized because she was not able to go to the Philippines sooner. She also said that she really had fun here and doesn’t even want to return back (to Japan) (帰りたくない). Sadly, we all know that it wasn’t quite possible but the emotion behind her words can be felt, that they were spoken from the heart.

The fan-driven effort was really amazing to witness. The community was able to make Rippi special and the staff were even impressed by the effort. Not to mention, kudos to the effort of for making Rippi’s short stay in Philippines a memorable one.

For an event that I looked forward to for almost 6 months, the wait was worth it.

Looking toward to better and improved conventions for next year.

Rippi setlist:

  1. Kataomoi Sekkin
  2. Sirius
  3. Heartache = Koi to Yokan
